PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has said that Rana Sanaullah misled the National Assembly in connection with the Model Town case because the FIR for killing 14 innocent civilians had been registered on the court orders. He questioned if Rana Sana and his leaders were innocent in the case then why they disallowed an impartial investigation into it, notwithstanding numerous protests and demands by the heirs of those martyred and injured in the incident. read more...
Central PAT President Qazi Zahid Hussain has said Muhammad Sultan, who was sentenced to five years in jail by an anti-terrorism court for protesting the oppression in Model Town has a brain tumor. He said after efforts of many months, he was brought to Multan hospital and what is more oppressive is that his handcuffs were not removed even on the hospital bed. Addressing a ceremony on the occasion of International Day of Human Rights, PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said only the wealthy and moneyed classes have a monopoly on human rights. He said this notion is representative of oppression and contradicts the Islamic system of justice and the ideology of Pakistan. He said education, health, the security of life and jobs are fundamental human rights. Pakistan Awami Tehreek has launched an electoral campaign for local bodies elections throughout Punjab. The party will field its candidates for every village council. LG institutions need to be empowered through the provision of financial resources and administrative powers for regional development. PAT believes in the political philosophy of powerful local government institutions and empowered people. After Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri's announcement of retirement from politics, Pakistan Awami Tehreek announced the formation of its 12-member Supreme Council on Tuesday. The Supreme Council has been mandated to exercise the powers vested in the office of the Chairman PAT. Hamayun Bashir, who was in prison in connection the protest over Model Town tragedy, breathed his last due to kidney failure. His funeral prayer was offered in Lahore.
