In a meeting held at the Central Secretariat of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), senior PAT leaders have regretted the absence of timely legislation on the local government elections. They said that keeping the people deprived of their constitutional right of vote is not only a deviation from the democratic norms but also a violation of the constitution. A meeting of the PAT Central Executive Council (CEC) was held at the central secretariat in which matters related to the local bodies elections came under discussion. The local PAT chapters and office-holders were given instructions regarding appropriate candidates. The meeting also decided to launch a coordinated mass contact campaign ahead of LG polls. The PAT leaders said that people are greatly worried over the way things have gone beyond their purchasing capacity. They said that Pakistan has become the fourth most expensive country in the world. PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur presented a number of resolutions on the occasion of the oath-taking ceremony which were unanimously approved. The resolution asked the government to stay away from unilaterally approving the law regarding change in religion. It said that certified copies of the draft bill should be circulated to all schools of thought to seek their opinion. Islamic Ideology Council should also be consulted in this regard. Qazi Zahid Hussain from Sindh and Khurram Nawaz Gandapur from KP have been elected as president and secretary-general of the party respectively. The schedule of PAT's intra-party elections has been released. Accordingly, the polling will take place on September 19, 2021. Issuing the schedule, Secretary Election Commission Ghulam Murtaza Alvi said that the nomination forms will be available for collection from the 30th of August onward. He said that September 4 is the last date for the submission of forms, whereas the objections and scrutiny of the papers will be finalized by September 7 and the final lists of candidates will be issued on Sept 8. read more...
