Public should benefit from fuel price reduction: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur
Secretary-General of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, has questioned why the people of Pakistan are being deprived of the benefits of reduced petroleum prices. He stated that fuel prices should be reduced by at least 50 rupees per liter, as global petroleum prices have reached their lowest levels in the past three years. He also emphasized that electricity prices should also be lowered.
The PAT Secretary General explained that cheaper petroleum products would boost business activities, increase production, and reduce inflation and unemployment. He stressed that it is time to change the administrative approach towards indirect taxes and suggested that household electricity consumers using up to 300 units should be fully exempted from GST.
"If the government's claims of economic stability are true, then the benefits should reach the public," he asserted.
Commenting on inflation during Ramadan, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur pointed out that every year, governments make grand claims about controlling artificial price hikes, but no administration has ever been able to hold profiteers accountable.
He further stated that if the government successfully enforces strict legal action against hoarders and profiteers, there would be no need to provide billions of rupees in subsidies on essential food items.
"Controlling inflation is an issue of good governance, and the government must focus on it," he concluded.
