PAT announces new office-bearers after intra-party elections
The process of intra-party elections of Pakistan Awami Tehreek has been completed. Qazi Zahid Hussain from Sindh and Khurram Nawaz Gandapur from KP have been elected as president and secretary-general of the party respectively. The party's election commission announced the names of the central and provincial office-holders.
Chairman of the election commission, Rana Fayyaz Ahmad, made these announcements after the intra-party election process was over. He said that Qazi Zahid Hussain and Khurram Nawaz Gandapur were returned as president and secretary-general respectively.
According to the official announcement, Ibrar Hussain Advocate and Rana Munir were elected president and general-secretary for Islamabad; Mian Rehan Asad Maqbool and Karamat Ali were elected president and general secretary for central Punjab; and for northern Punjab, Qazi Shafique-ur-Rahman and Sardar Muhammad Sabir were declared as winners for the slots of the president and general secretary.
Dr Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry and Gulzar Hassan Shah succeeded in the election for president and general-secretary of PAT Lahore. Naseer Khan Jadoon and Kamran Sohail Advocate were elected for the top two offices for the PAT Hazara chapter. PAT KP elected Usman Ali as president and Pir Muneeb Ahmad as general-secretary.
Pervaiz Hassan and Abdul Ghafoor Bhatti were successful in their election to the positions of president and general-secretary respectively for Interior Sindh. Qaiser Iqbal Qadri and Rao Kamran were able to win the election for the slots of the president and general secretary of the Karachi chapter of the party.
Muhammad Ismail and Mir Makail Nazar Sanjarani were declared as the president and general-secretary for PAT Balochistan; whereas the PAT South Punjab chapter elected Noor Ahmad Sahoo as the president. The polling for the position of general secretary South Punjab will be conducted again.
Newly elected central President PAT Qazi Zahid Hussain and Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur addressed the oath-taking ceremony in which they said that PAT is not a traditional political party. They said that it is an ideological party working for the welfare of the downtrodden sections of society by changing the outdated and rotten system through peaceful means. They said that the party's supremo, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, has given the nation the awareness of constitutional rights, and comprehensive reforms. They said we consider politics as a means of public service.
Resolutions adopted at PAT oath-taking ceremony
PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur presented a number of resolutions on the occasion of the oath-taking ceremony which were unanimously approved.
Resolution about draft bill about change in religion
The resolution asked the government to stay away from unilaterally approving the law regarding change in religion. It said that certified copies of the draft bill should be circulated to all schools of thought to seek their opinion. Islamic Ideology Council should also be consulted in this regard. Unilateral legislation will undermine the environment of unity among the Umma.
Demand for removal of public officials involved in Model Town case
Another resolution passed on the occasion said that the government officials nominated in the Model Town FIR and those police officers and officials summoned by the anti-terrorism as accused should be made to step down from their positions. It asked the Chief Justices of Pakistan and the Lahore High Court to play their constitutional role in the dispensation of justice to the families of the martyrs of Model Town tragedy.
Resolution against artificial inflation and price hike
The resolution noted that the massive price hike during the past few months has made it impossible for the common to make both ends meet. It asked the government to put an end to artificial price hike and announce a special subsidy on sugar, cooking oil and flour.
Demand for holding local government elections
The government should immediately announce the conduct of the local government polls in the country. The resolution further asked the government to empower the LG institutions administratively and economically so that they can deliver effectively.
Demand to make South Punjab a separate province
The establishment of a secretariat will not be enough to resolve the problems of people of South Punjab. South Punjab should be made a separate province on administrative grounds in light of the resolution adopted by the Punjab Assembly.
Resolution about water management and small dams construction
There is a need for water management in order to increase the storage capacity and address the water shortages. Small dams should also be constructed along with the large water reservoirs so that the danger of flood is mitigated and water is stored for agricultural use later on.
Demand to provide cheap pesticides and seeds
The government should announce subsidies to the farmers on seeds, POL products, pesticides and in other related areas so that their urgent problems are addressed and the agricultural production is significantly enhanced.
The use of solar energy
The world is moving fast towards clean energy which is not only cheap but also environment-friendly. The dependence on wind, hydel and solar energy should be increased instead of gas, diesel and thermal.
