PAT to field its candidates for every village council
Pakistan Awami Tehreek has launched an electoral campaign for local bodies elections throughout Punjab. The party will field its candidates for every village council. LG institutions need to be empowered through the provision of financial resources and administrative powers for regional development. PAT believes in the political philosophy of powerful local government institutions and empowered people. The development of democratic institutions is not possible without a functional LG system. PAT leaders and workers should immediately start preparations for the upcoming LG elections, speed up membership and contact campaigns. Conveying the political vision of the party is the responsibility of every PAT worker.
These views were expressed by Arif Chaudhry, central PAT Secretary Coordination while addressing a meeting held at the secretariat in Model Town. Mian Rehan Maqbool, Asif Suleheria Advocate, Qari Mazhar Farid, Mian Abdul Qadir, Chaudhry Afzal Gujjar, Shifaqat Mughal and other leaders attended the meeting.
Arif Chaudhry said we would take part in the local government polls with full preparation. He said PAT is an ideological political party and the only party that raised an effective voice against the oppressive system. It rendered many sacrifices during the struggle but did not compromise on its principled stance. He said we would continue to stay put, stating that the struggle for the democratic institutions would continue.
General Secretary Punjab Mian Rehan Maqbool said in his views that PAT waged a long struggle for reforms in the system of elections, elimination of corruption and the supremacy of the Constitution. He said Model Town tragedy was a backlash from the status quo forces who felt threatened by the rights movement. He said despite the passage of time, we would continue to demand justice till it is served. He asked the people to elect such representatives to LG institutions as are imbued with the spirit of public service. He said we would constitute administrative committees to effectively campaign during the polls season.
