Dismissal of review petitions by SC historic development towards elimination of corruption: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the show of the Sharif dynasty has come to an end. He said that the SC’s dismissal of review petitions filed by the Sharif family represents a significant development towards elimination of corruption in the country. He hoped that Model Town case will also reach its logical conclusion and those who perpetrated tragedy will be brought to justice. He asked the Sharif family to present itself for accountability after their review petitions were thrown out by the SC unanimously. He said that the Sharifs should be meted out the same kind of treatment that is administered to a common man, adding that the families of martyrs of Model Town are waiting for the Najfi report to be made public.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri made these remarks while talking to the senior party leaders. He said that he did not see anyone getting humiliated the way the ruling family is but their stubbornness has not abated even a bit. He said that mere disqualification is not enough. The looted and laundered wealth should be brought back. He said that the anti-judiciary rhetoric should be taken note of, warning that any leniency on this count will be disastrous. He said that even the honorable judges of the SC have also reached conclusion that the anti-judiciary drive is being run under the supervision of Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar, therefore, a strict action should be taken against this campaign.
The PAT leader said that whether it is out of frustration or with a clear intent to put pressure on the judiciary, no tactic should be allowed to play itself out. He demanded that the corruption cases should be taken to their logical conclusion and time has come to prove that no one is above the law. He said that we have faced the might of the Sharif dynasty and suffered heavy sacrifices in man and material. He said that thousands of our workers were put behind the bars, adding that a PAT worker from Bhakkar, Abdullah, has been freed from jail by an antiterrorism court after three years. He asked as to who will hold those accountable who held the innocent person in illegal captivity for three years. He said that we are happy that at the end of the day, accountability of the oppressors has started.
Dr Qadri said that we remain focused on the Model Town case. He said that meaningful development to justice will take place the day the Najfi Commission report is made public. He said that justice is not merely demand of the affected families but the foremost responsibility of the judiciary as well. He said that the decision in the Model Town case will determine that protection of life, honour and property of every citizen of the state without any discrimination is a sacred responsibility and that everyone is equal before the law. He further stated that by passing a resolution in favor of a disqualified person, the Punjab Assembly has committed violation of the Constitution which is an impeachable act. He said that the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly should expunge the resolution from the record of the assembly and tender a public apology.
