Model Town tragedy is an open case: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
PAT leader Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that Model Town tragedy is an open case and the government is only trying to employ all the tactics in the book to delay the release of Justice Najfi Commission report. He said that the affected families of Model Town tragedy have prayed to the court of law to heed their pleas and order immediate release of the report. He said that the government lawyers are ridiculing the judiciary in the garb of arguments at the behest of their political masters.
Dr Qadri made these remarks while talking to the delegations of lawyers the other day. He said that according to Article 85 of Qanoon-e-Shahadat Ordinance 1984, the proceedings of tribunals, and judicial and executive bodies are public, adding that only such information can be withheld that can undermine peace and security and damage inter-state relations according to clause 13 of Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act but the Baqir Najfi report does not contain any such thing and despite this, stating that despite this, government is refusing to make the report public. He said that only a select group of those sitting in the government are threatened by the release of Najfi Commission report who presided over the killing of innocent people. He said that cameras filmed all incidents of that unforgettable day.
The PAT Chairman said that with the publication of Justice Najfi Commission, the path to justice in the Model Town case will be paved. He said that under Article 19-A, the report is a public document and it is constitutional and legal right of the family members of the martyrs to get its copy. He said that the people are looking towards the court for their fundamental right of justice that should be provided to them immediately. He said that the government lawyers had given their commitment that the proceedings of the intra-court appeal will take place daily and they will become its part but now they are using delaying tactics. He asked the court not to give any more concessions to the government.
