No improvement in life of the poor despite lofty claims: Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri
PAT Chairman Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the all the hustle and bustle of the world depends upon the hard work of labourers. The labourers are the backbone of economy and no society can progress unless the improvement in the lives of labour class is ensured. He noted that the injustices being meted out to the workers were the underlying causes responsible for the emergence of exploitative system that was instrumental in giving rise to friction among the different segments of society. He added that the mere enactment of labour laws would never be able to solve the problems confronting the labourers.
Dr Qadri observed that the believing firmly in supremacy of constitution and the rule of law would go long way in serving the objectives of resolving the labour issues, while adding that Pakistan was developing country and the labourers were the backbone of our economy. He was talking with the leaders of Awami Tajir Ittihad. Chairman Awami Tajir Ittihad, Haji Muhammad Ishaq; central president, Hafiz Ghulam Farid; Secretary General, Altaf Randhawa; Mahboob Alam and others were also present at the occasion.
PAT Chairman paid rich tributes to the working classes for their untiring efforts in expediting the development of the country despite the rampant oppression and exploitation. He urged the elite class to abandon their open enmity with the labourers. He lamented that by not reducing the price of petroleum products even at the occasion of Labour Day, the government had committed enmity with the workers. The rulers, being the representatives of the exploitative forces, were not willing to ensure basic rights for the labourers. He further added that the unemployment, inflation, the provision of standard education to their children were the biggest problems confronting the labourers.
Dr Qadri urged the labour organizations and unions to forge united front because those who formulated policies for the labourers were in fact their biggest enemies. He said while explaining the motives of Pakistan Awami Tehreek that it was dedicated to bringing about economic revolution through practical struggle. He regretted that despite the fact that our 65% of total population earned their livelihood through labour, our parliament had concentrated its efforts to secure the interests of 35% of population. The billionaire families, that were hardly more than a few dozens, had virtually kidnapped the 65% of population. He said that the current rulers’ great fortunes worth of trillions of rupees were the product of exploitative strategies and oppressive treatment they had meted out to the poor. He noted that the most of the PAT workers that were killed by the police in Model Town incident were labourers.
The important meeting of the leaders of the Awami Tajir Ittihad was held in main secretariat, Model Town in which the trade leaders said that the workers were as enthusiastic and willing to sacrifice their lives for the cause of their objectives as the Chicago workers. It was demanded through the resolution that the 10-point agenda presented by Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri must be made the foundation of the efforts that aimed to bring about change in the lives of labourers. The labourers-killing polices must be abandoned, the minimum wage of the labourer must be equivalent to the price of one Tola gold, the effectives measures must be taken to improve the inspection system monitored by labour inspector, the resolution concluded.
