LHC takes protective bail of PAT Secretary General
Lahore High Court has taken the protective bail of PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur till September 23. He would appear in the antiterrorism court today to record an important statement in connection with the private complaint in the Model Town case. The Faisal Town Police registered an FIR No. 510 of the Model Town tragedy on June 17, 2014 in which it nominated 42 PAT workers including Khurram Nawaz Gandapur. The challan of the case remains under trial in the anti-terrorism court.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur appeared in the court of Justice Abdus Sami to seek protective bail. Rai Bashir Advocate, Naeem-ud-Din Ch Advocate, Ishtiaq Ch. Advocate, Sardar Ghazanfar Advocate, Syed Farzand Ali Mash`hadi Advocate, and Imtiaz Advocate represented the PAT Secretary General in the court. Noorullah Siddiqui, Jawad Hamid and MH Shaheen were also present on the occasion.
After acceptance of the bail, the PAT Secretary General talked to media along with his lawyers. He said that fake cases were registered against the PAT leaders so that they could not stand by the oppressed and aggrieved people who lost their near and dear ones in the Model Town carnage. He said that there are two laws in the country; one for the powerful and the other for the poor. He said that the powerful may loot national exchequer and kill innocent people and law of the land will be blind to them. He said that fake cases are registered against the weak and the oppressed so that they could not dare ask for justice, adding that Model Town tragedy is its living example.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that the Faisal Town police registered a fake FIR against us at the behest of the government and then declared us proclaimed offender through one-sided action. He stated that the second FIR lodged by the families of the martyrs continues to hang fire. He said that not even a legal notice has been sent to the accused what to speak of legal action. He said that the killers of 14 innocent people are enjoying official protocol thereby making fun of law. He said that he would record an important statement in the antiterrorism court on September 20 in regard to Model Town tragedy and it is for this reason he has sought protective bail.
