Qadri returns, demands justice for Model Town victims

LAHORE: Reminding the law enforcers about the Model Town incident Tahir ul Qadri, chief Pakistan Awami Tehrik, said that 14 bodies in Punjab were waiting for justice to be served, Aaj News reported.

Qadri was talking to the media after he reached Lahore on Tuesday, a year after he ended a protest in Islamabad.

He said that the corrupt government was running Pakistan like a family business.

Qadri was greeted by a large number of his followers who showered rose petals on him. Qadri is founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran, an organization which runs a network of schools and cvolleges all over Pakistan.

On June 17, last year, a clash between PAT workers and the Punjab police left 14 of Dr Qadri's adherents dead. In the live footage broadcast on television, the policemen were shown firing assault rifles and lobbing tear gas canisters at the protesting masses while the protesters threw stones at the police for defense.

The tragedy later began to be called the Model Town Massacre, and Qadri has time and again reminded the government to take action against the police officers involved in the killing and CM Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, who he alleges, ordered the shoot out.
