Senior PAT leaders call on Gen (r ) Pervez Musharraf
PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur called on former President of Pakistan Gen (r ) Pervez Musharraf at his residence in Karachi. Matters relating to prevailing political situation in the country and the upcoming second phase of local government elections came under discussion during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the former President said that the united opposition can prove to be an effective opposition for resolution of people’s problems and establishment of real democracy in the country. He said that there should be no delay in uniting all the opposition parties on one platform in order to protect the public interest. He said that the local government institutions having no real executive and financial authority and which are likely to be remote-controlled, cannot represent the aspirations of the masses. He said that concentration of power and resources in a few hands is increasing the restlessness and anxiety among the masses, adding that establishment of independent and powerful local government institutions is inevitable.
Expressing his views, the PAT Secretary General said that the masses are feeling the need of third political force in the country. He said that the benefit of scattered opposition is going to the current rulers. He said that those who came into power with a claim to set economy back on track have destroyed it. He said that Pakistan of 2007 was far stronger and stable than Pakistan of 2015.
Both leaders agreed to increase political contacts in future. Gen. (r ) Pervez Musharraf enquired after the health of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri. MQI Karachi head Qazi Zahid and Tanvir Khan were also present in the meeting.
