Government lacking seriousness to control infection of terrorism: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that even now the rulers are not serious in controlling the infection of terrorism. He said that there is a fear that the politicians may convert the successes the military achieved against terrorism in the mountains and caves into failure. He asked the Prime Minister to tell the nation as to how many points of the National Action Plan have been implemented in the last eight months. He said that terrorism, corruption and energy crisis have crippled life but the Parliament is busy in playing petty political games such as sorting out resignation issue of one party after another. He said that the Attock terrorist attack has exposed the lip service and incompetence of rulers yet again. He said that the people belonging to the same party are pointing out serial killers sitting in the cabinet, asking as to why law enforcement agencies are silent on such revelation. When those wronged in the Model Town tragedy will get justice, he asked.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while talking to senior PAT leaders on telephone yesterday. He said that the rulers still consider the war against terrorism as the war of the military alone. He said that every political leader who put his signature on the 20-point National Action Plan is answerable to the masses with regard to its implementation. He said that the students, the youth and civil society activists have every right to ask rulers as to where they are spending the national resources and what their priorities are and why elimination of terrorism is not the top priority of the rulers to secure the future of the nation.
The PAT chairman further said that the employment of the gun is just one part of the strategy to wipe out terrorism from the country. He said that the real job lies in addressing the factors and causes that spawn terrorism. He said that unless syllabus of religious seminaries and other educational institutions is reviewed and revised; unless pro-peace curriculum gets to be taught; unless social and economic disparity of every kind is eliminated; unless foreign funding is stopped; unless the defunct organizations are stopped from working under changed names; and unless police and civil agencies working under the political governments are purged of politics, the terrorists will continue to find safe havens and the innocent citizens will continue to lose their lives.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the PAT and MQI have made practical effort to protect the succeeding generations from the pernicious effect of mischief of ‘Khawarij’ by designing Islamic Curriculum on Peace and Counter-Terrorism. He said that the peace curriculum is getting international acknowledgement in the world but added in the same breath that the government of Pakistan has an ostrich-like approach due to its vested political interests of the rulers. He said that elimination of terrorism and securing the future of coming generations is not among the priorities of the government, which is unfortunate. He said that construction of bridges, roads and the launch of metro buses figure prominently in the priorities of the rulers. He said that it is unfortunate for the nation that incompetent rulers stay imposed on them.
