People to be spectators as winning horses clash on May 11: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, the leader of PAT, has said that there will be election among the winning horses of various political parties on May 11 in which the role of people will merely be that of spectators. He said that the political parties were busy in selecting the best winning horses these days and ritual of elections would be performed after this phase on May 11. The political arrangements coming into being would start adding to the woes of the masses due to their compromises and lack of inaction.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while talking to Khurram Nawaz Gundapur, PAT Secretary General, telephonically from London yesterday.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that PAT had already rejected the entire electoral system due to lack of transparency and fair play of election process. He said that it would hold peaceful sit-ins across the country to protest against the compromised political process. He said that about 60% to 65% of electorate who chose to opt out of voting process to show their lack of confidence in the system would join these sit-ins. He said that silent majority who were the worst victims of the system would no more be silent now.
Dr Qadri said that elections were the best means for transfer of power and the continuity of real democracy should be the top priority of the nation. He, however, added in the same breath that what was being done in the name of democracy was merely its form not substance.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that elections were part of democracy and could not be dubbed as its whole. He said that the people could only enjoy the fruits of democracy if the Election Commission was powerful and neutral and the electoral process was fair and transparent. He said that unfortunately it could not be done.
He said that political party that would come into power after the elections would be busy pandering to ever growing demands of its coalition partners, while the disconnect between people and their rights would continue to widen by the day. He said that the country’s economy would have a new spell of mismanagement and corruption would increase. He said that there were strong fears that the upcoming elections could provide an impetus to Pakistan transitioning from being a weak state to the failed one. He said that if it so happened, the future of coming generations would be doomed.
