Dissolution of HEC a conspiracy against people of Pakistan: G.M. Malik
The Higher Education Commission has played commendable role in promoting higher education in the country. It has provided leadership in the educational sector besides fostering a culture of research and creativity in the universities of Pakistan. It has won accolades from the international community for its academic standards and performance. The decision to dissolve the HEC reflects political motives.
G.M. Malik, a central leader and spokesman of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, expressed these views while talking to a delegation of MSM, which called on him in his office the other day. Tajjmal Hussain, president of MSM, was leading the delegation.
G.M. Malik said that dissolution of the HEC is a conspiracy to deprive the poor people of their right to education. The students belonging to middle and lower middle classes had a rare opportunity of proceeding abroad for higher education through the merit-based policy of the HEC. They would not be having this opportunity anymore as the government has finally decided to disband the higher education body, he added. He said that some members of the ruling elite resist the idea of educating people in their constituencies. They do not allow the universities and colleges to be opened up. He added in the same context that they are the very people who are supporting the dissolution of the HEC.
