LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has refused to become the part of investigation related to Model Town tragedy, Dunya News reported. Inspector General Punjab Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera had written a letter to Tahirul Qadri to join investigation into the incident. Countrywide rallies were held under the banner of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to express solidarity with the armed forces on the special instructions of Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri. Hundreds of people attended the PAT rallies everywhere. Motor cycle rally was taken out from Aiwan-e-Iqbal to the Lahore Press Club in which hundreds of people took part. The participants of the rally raised slogan in favor of the armed forces and against terrorists. They were carrying banners and placards on which pro-military slogans were written. read more...
On June 17, 2014, police fired without warning on supporters of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) political party who had attempted to resist police demolition of security barriers erected by PAT in front of its headquarters in the Lahore residential area of Model Town. Call it the ‘Model Town fiasco’ or ‘tragedy’, call it whatever may suit your political ends but, irrespective of the spin, one thing was settled in the killing fields of Lahore on June 17: policing, as the world understands it, simply does not exist in Pakistan. Dr.Tahir ul Qadri’s APC was held at the Minhaj -ul- Quran Secretariat in model town. It was attended by more than 50 religious and political parties and groups. APC had no other agenda except to build consensus on the line of action against state brutality. Most of the sects of religion were represented by the religious scholars. In the five-point charter of demands, the APC also called for a fair probe into the Model Town incident, formation of a commission comprising three judges of the Supreme Court. It was also demanded that the commission comprising judges with clean reputation should head the proposed commission and must have the authority to summon anyone, including the sitting prime minister, federal ministers and Punjab chief minister. LAHORE – An all parties conference (APC), called by the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, on Sunday demanded resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif over the Model Town tragedy, private news channels reported. At least 50 members of political and religious parties participated in the conference while the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the largest opposition party, and the Awami National Party avoided the gathering. read more...
A joint-declaration issued after the All Parties Conference (APC) convened by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s resignation and dismissal of ministers and senior officials over Minhajul Quran tragedy.
