Victims of Model Town Tragedy Still Await Justice: Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate

Justice Cannot Be Served Without an Impartial Investigation

Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate said that the Model Town tragedy is one of the most tragic incidents in the history of Pakistan, and that the victims and families of those martyred have been waiting for justice for the past 12 years. Despite the passage of so many years, the victims have continued their legal and judicial struggle within the framework of the Constitution and law, and this struggle will continue until justice is achieved.

He said that, unfortunately, the victims of the Model Town tragedy have still not been afforded their full right to a transparent and impartial investigation. The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), constituted under the leadership of A.D. Khawaja, completed its investigation of the victims and accused in the Model Town tragedy. However, the accused obtained a stay order from the Lahore High Court against the JIT proceedings, resulting in the JIT's proceedings remaining stalled for several years.

Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate said that a seven-member bench of the Lahore High Court completed the hearing of the matter, but its decision has yet to be announced. He said that our position has been clear from the very beginning: the Model Town tragedy must be investigated transparently, impartially and strictly on merit so that the facts can emerge and all those responsible can be identified in accordance with the law.

He stressed that the requirements of justice cannot be fulfilled until all legal requirements of the investigation have been completed and those responsible have been identified.

The legal spokesperson said that justice is not only a fundamental right of the families of the martyrs and the victims, but is also essential for upholding the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and the credibility of the state's justice system. The families of the Model Town martyrs and the victims continue to knock on the doors of the courts, he said, expressing confidence that they will ultimately receive justice in accordance with the Constitution and law.

He added that all legal aspects of the case are being effectively presented before the courts and that every constitutional and legal avenue will continue to be pursued in the quest for justice.
