PAT Announces Nationwide Awareness Campaign for Creation of New Provinces

Seminars to be held in Lahore on September 4, Karachi on September 13–14, Islamabad and Rawalpindi on September 18–20, Multan on September 25–27, and Peshawar on October 2–4
People have grown weary of a system that protects the interests of the elite, says Mian Rehan Maqbool

Senior Central Vice President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Mian Rehan Maqbool, has said that the people have grown weary of a system designed to protect the interests of the elite. He said national resources are being spent on specific families and privileged groups instead of improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

Millions of citizens are deprived of basic necessities, including clean drinking water, education, and healthcare. He said that each passing day is bringing greater financial hardship for the people. Unless fundamental changes are made to the system, national resources will continue to be consumed by the bureaucracy and political elite, he added.

Mian Rehan Maqbool said that Pakistan Awami Tehreek has decided to launch a nationwide public awareness campaign focusing on the creation of new provinces, an empowered local government system, and comprehensive reforms aimed at changing the existing system.

As part of the campaign, seminars will be held in Lahore on September 4; Karachi on September 13 and 14; Islamabad and Rawalpindi from September 18 to 20; Multan from September 25 to 27; and Peshawar from October 2 to 4.

Mian Rehan Maqbool said that, a decade ago, Sheikh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri had given the call of “Save the State, Not Politics” to save the country. He had advocated the creation of new provinces and the establishment of a constitutionally protected local government system so that people’s problems could be resolved at their doorstep.

However, he said, the parties representing the status quo had been obstacles to such reforms in the past and continue to stand in their way today.
