December 23 Rally Was Not Just a Gathering, but a Movement of Public Awareness: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur
There Can Be No Political Stability Without Legal and Electoral Reforms
PAT Believes Reforms Are Inevitable: Secretary General

The Secretary General of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, said that December 23, 2012, will always be remembered in Pakistan’s history as a shining symbol of the struggle for constitutional awareness and the supremacy of law. He said the day serves as a reminder that the people of Pakistan want a system in which the Constitution is supreme and the law is applied equally to all.
He stated that the historic rally of Pakistan Awami Tehreek held at Minar-e-Pakistan on December 23, 2012, was in fact a practical expression of the demand for comprehensive legal and electoral reforms in order to make the electoral system transparent. He added that Pakistan Awami Tehreek continues its struggle with full determination for the establishment of the supremacy of the Constitution and law, and for a truly democratic system.
The PAT Secretary General emphasized that sustainable democracy, transparent governance, and the protection of public rights are only possible when the rule of law is ensured in accordance with the true spirit of the Constitution and when fundamental reforms are implemented in the electoral system. Through the December 23, 2012 rally, Pakistan Awami Tehreek had clearly conveyed the message that a transparent political system is a fundamental right of the nation.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that the existing political and electoral system has failed to provide genuine representation to the people, resulting in the spread of corruption, injustice, and the dominance of powerful elites. He added that without electoral reforms, it is impossible to hold free, fair, and impartial elections, which form the very foundation of democratic stability.
He further said that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees fundamental rights to citizens; however, due to the lack of full implementation of these rights, the common citizen remains deprived of justice, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. He reiterated that Pakistan Awami Tehreek will continue its struggle for reforms through peaceful, constitutional, and democratic means.
He concluded by saying that the December 23 rally was not merely a public gathering but an intellectual and awareness-driven movement that instilled in the people the understanding that the sanctity of the vote and honest leadership alone can steer the country out of its crises.
