Pakistan’s hardworking farmers can shield the economy from tariff war: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur
Secretary General of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, has stated that the world is embroiled in an unprecedented crisis of “tariff war.” He asserted that Pakistan’s hardworking farmers have the potential to shield the country from the damaging effects of this global economic conflict, which is affecting both developed and developing nations alike.
The PAT Secretary General emphasized that the economies which will survive this war are those with minimal dependence on imported goods. "This is the best time to make our economy self-reliant," he said, urging reliance on domestic food production, pharmaceuticals, and innovation.
Mr. Gandapur called for launching a “Made in Pakistan” campaign, strengthening the manufacturing sector, and creating a favorable environment for foreign investors. He stressed the need to make energy affordable, ensure a fair taxation system, and reform the corrupt administrative structure. Above all, he said, law and order must be improved, and the country’s vast mineral resources should be utilized using modern techniques.
The PAT leader noted that Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with seas, fertile lands, mountains, mineral wealth, and hardworking labor force. With better management and the use of modern technology, Pakistan can become an indispensable player in the global economy.
He stated that for now, agriculture must be prioritized to stabilize the economy. New water reservoirs should be built, water management should be improved, and reliance on modern agricultural technology must increase. At the same time, the business community should be brought into confidence, all energy sources should be made affordable, and governance must be improved, he added.
