How long can we rely on loans and bailouts? Khurram Nawaz Gandapur
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Secretary General of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, has questioned how long our governments will continue to rely on IMF loans and aid. He said that the purchasing power of the common man has collapsed.
How much longer will the public be strangled with taxes on petrol, diesel, electricity, gas, and essential commodities to secure two or three billion dollars? In a few years, even IMF loans will not be able to support Pakistan's economy, he maintained.
The PAT Secretary General said that instead of proposing solutions for terrorism and the economy in the assemblies, the members are busy settling scores with each other. Twenty years ago, we were at war with terrorists; today, we are still in the same position. He said that the young people are asking how and when these crises will end. He said that in our lifetime, we have never seen Pakistan in such a dire state as it is today.
“For God's sake, stop playing with the future of 60% of the youth and do not turn Pakistan into a graveyard,” he appealed.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that war-torn Afghanistan and flood-ravaged Bangladesh have managed to stand on their own feet, while we are still standing on the crutches of aid and loans. This is not a matter of politics but of the survival of the state and its 250 million people. Therefore, everyone should shed their egos and arrogance and move forward with the national flag. The assemblies should assert their existence.
The PAT leader said that Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri's advice to forgive each other and sit together for the sake of the nation and the country's interest is the only way to keep the flame of hope alive. He said today, Pakistan has become a spectacle in the eyes of the world. Pakistanis are treated and seen as beggars. He said our Prime Minister, ministers, and secretaries have no respect anywhere. Every Pakistani is crying tears of blood over this humiliation and disgrace.
He said the countries that used to provide jobs for our workers have also stopped issuing visas. What day are we waiting for? He said that friendly countries that sympathize with Pakistan are screaming that if you want economic stability, end political instability and stop fighting among yourselves, but no one is ready to let go of their ego.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that an additional burden of 3.8 trillion rupees in taxes has been placed on the common man in the federal budget. There is neither business nor employment in the country; who will pay these heavy taxes?, he asked.
