PAT Central Executive Council holds post-election huddle
The post-election meeting of the Central Executive Council of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) was held at the Central Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur. Members of the Central Executive Council and the candidates participating in the elections of the national and provincial assemblies attended the session.
Addressing the meeting, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that the recent elections have proven that this failed system does not represent the aspirations of the people. He said that change will only come through a proportional representation system. He said that the indebted Pakistan cannot afford to uphold the interests of the aristocracy through the parliamentary system. He said that the parliamentary system has trapped voters and representatives alike in the web of corruption.
PAT Secretary General said that no candidate can run an election campaign in this system without spending millions of rupees. The system, he said, has made individuals pharaohs instead of parties. He stated that the parliamentary democratic system has rendered 250 million people helpless before the IMF. He added that in this system, only gatekeepers change while the corrupt system remains intact.
He said that the anti-people system has even deprived people of their right to live. The state is getting weaker in this system. This is not the time for politics but to save the state, he added.
“This failed system will never let Pakistanis unite and the country be strengthened,” he concluded.
The meeting was attended by Raja Zahid Mahmood, Noorullah Siddiqui, Mian Rehan Maqbool, Arif Chaudhry, Sardar Umar Daraz, Mian Kashif Mahmood, Saqib Bhatti, and other participants.
