PAT will take active part in the provincial elections
Addressing a press conference along with the central leaders, zonal presidents and the candidates of the party for the provincial assembly, PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has said that transparent and fair elections are a must to get the country out of the multiple crises. He declared that PAT would take active part in the provincial elections. He said that the Election Commission has lost its credibility, adding that the conduct of transparent elections is not possible in the presence of the present ECP team. He said that the candidates need to be scrutinized as per the requirements of Article 62 and 63 to stop the tax defaulters, corrupt and convicted people from becoming the members of the assembly. He prayed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to ensure that the elections are held within 90 days as per the constitutional stipulation.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur revealed in the press conference that he received a call from PTI President Ch Pervaiz Elahi. He said that we would discuss the future course of action in our in-person meeting. He said that transfers and postings are not the prerogative of the caretaker government. He said that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri held a long march and staged a sit-in for the electoral reforms and the reconstitution of the ECP as per the Constitution but the then government did not implement the agreement that was reached between PAT and the government.
Criticizing the flour distribution, PAT Secretary General said that the manner in which the distribution is being done is humiliating. He said that there are reports of defective wheat being distributed that have negative implications for human health. He said that textile and auto industries are winding up; and joblessness is on the rise, adding that the government is unable to pay attention to the basic issues. He said that some kind of legislation should be carried out to ban the use of foul language inside and outside of parliament. He said whenever the PMLN has come into power, it has unleashed a reign of intimidation, and harassment whereby the political workers are being arrested unlawfully.
