Nation is proud of sacrifices of the armed forces: PAT
PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has expressed his deep sense of grief and sorrow on the martyrdom of the Pakistan Army soldiers in North Waziristan and Balochistan. He said that the terrorists are enemies of peace. He said that all terrorist elements and groups will have to be eliminated for the eradication of terrorism and the establishment of peace. He said that our armed forces are doing the sacred duty of protecting the motherland in inhospitable circumstances and harsh weather. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the souls of martyrs in peace and give patience and fortitude to their families to bear the loss of their near and dear ones.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that the sacrifices of the Pakistan army and the people in the war on terrorism are unforgettable. He said that our forces deserve utmost respect and gratitude from the nation. He said that the establishment of sustainable peace in the region is linked to the elimination of terrorism, which will benefit millions of people.
Meanwhile, PAT Punjab President Bashrat Jaspal has said that the metrological office has predicted severe rains throughout the country. He said that the government should use all resources to deal with natural calamities such as a flood. He said that it is high time the federal and provincial governments made joint plans to tackle the ensuing flood situation including the need to rescue and rehabilitate the flood victims. He said that special funds need to be set aside for rehabilitation of the flood affectees. He said that the leaves of the WASA officials should be canceled and an institutional effort should be made to cope with the situation. He said that the government should also extend financial help to those whose houses were destroyed in the rains and floods.
Bashrat Jaspal said that the Punjab Chief Minister helped some people in transporting them to safe places but asked int the same breath how many people a CM can rescue. He highlighted the need for all relevant departments of the government coming together and make a concerted effort for this purpose.
Bashrat Jaspal made these remarks while talking to delegations of the party from Faisalabad, Lahore, Sialkot, and Gujranwala at the party's central secretariat. Mian Rehan Maqbool, Raja Zahid Mahmood, Mian Abdul Qadir, Mian Kashif, Ghulam Muhammad, Chaudhry Afzal Gujjar, Shafaqat Mughal, and others were present on the occasion.
The Punjab PAT President said that mass migration was witnessed to the large cities during the tenure of the previous corrupt rulers, which resulted in the population density in those areas. He said that the former rulers did not pay any attention to improving the quality of civic amenities such as sewerage. Resultantly, the entire city gets drowned only after one major rainfall. He said that overhead bridges and underpasses were constructed but no arrangement was made for the disposal of the water beneath them. He said that no solid planning was carried out to deal with flooding which is a recurring phenomenon.
Bashrat Jaspal said that the system of life gets disturbed every year during the monsoon. He said that no attention was paid to the cleanliness of the drains and removal of encroachments on the banks of the water channels. Due to this, the water gets into the streets and homes and inundates them. He said that new dams need to be constructed to contain excess water and flooding during monsoon. He said that the stored water can be used for agriculture purpose and electricity generation. He suggested that the building of small dams is need of the hour to provide water to the people during the drought period.
