Punjab Bar Council moved for an action against Nazim Awan Advocate
Mohsin Rasool, a PAT witness in the Model Town case who was slapped by Nazim Awan Advocate, the lawyer of the accused, has moved an application to executive disciplinary committee of Punjab Bar Council in which he stated that the conduct of the lawyer has been violative of the fundamentals of the legal profession. He said that Nazim Awan Advocate slapped him in the glare of the full court during a hearing on September which is against the code of conduct of the Bar. He said that incident was covered in the national print and electronic media. The profession of law came in for questioning due to act of an individual. The disciplinary committee should take action against the said lawyer.
Jawad Hamid, mover of a private complaint in the Model Town case, stated that no professional lawyer can do such an act. He said that Nazim Awan shold be proceeded against as per Bar Council rules and regulations and his license should be suspended immediately. He said that provision of justice to the aggrieved is the chief responsibility of a legal practitioner. He said that the deplorable incident of slapping took place in front of the honorable judge of the antiterrorism court. He said that we have submitted an application to the judge as well and await action from the ATC.
Jawad Hamid said that we are being harassed because the FIR has been registered against the powerful people who are holding important positions and it is their summons that have been demanded. He said that all manner of threats are being thrown at us and we are being harassed glaringly.
PAT Secretary Information Noorullah Saddiqi said that we strongly condemn the incident of slapping Mohsin Rasool. He said that the incident has caused anxiety and anger among the workers. He said that we have been demanding justice peacefully for last four years. He appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the incident and seek a report on it, stating that it is due to his notice that day to day hearings are taking place in the antiterrorism court.
Meanwhile leaders of Awami Lawyers Forum, Lehrasib Gondal, Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate, Ishtiaq Ch Advocate, Sardar Ghazanfar Hasnain Advocate, and Shakeel Mumka Advocate also strongly condemned the incident of slapping and demanding of the Punjab Bar Council to take strict action against the said lawyer. They said that such an attitude will bring an infamy to the profession of law if left unchecked.
