Demand for suspension of NAB law reflection of diseased mindset: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that if the transparent and fair polls are held after accountability and reforms, then the looters of Panama will have their surety bonds forfeited. He said that the demands by the corrupt elite for suspension of the NAB law during election is not only brazen, criminal but also reflection of the diseased mindset. He said that there is a need of even greater and more effective role of NAB in the run up to the polls so that the people with questionable character could be stopped from getting elected to parliament.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri made these remarks while talking to the senior members of the central Core Committee of PAT on telephone yesterday. He welcomed the notice of the delay in dispensation of justice in the Model Town case taken by the Chief Justice of Pakistan on the plea of the family members of the martyrs and said that for a fair trial to take place, fair investigation is of paramount importance. He said that fair, and impartial inquiry into the Model Town massacre has yet to take place, adding that the rulers are a hurdle in the way of impartial investigation and provision of justice.

The PAT Chairman said that the Model Town case has hogged international attention. He said that the demands of justice and fair play were flouted with abandon. He said that since the rulers of the day and their subordinate police are directly involved in the tragedy, the evidence and other related material was not allowed to be made part of record. He said that during the course of investigation into this most sensitive case of national history, neither were weapons of offence recovered nor were they handed over for forensic audit. He said that the record of orders to police to reach the site was removed. He said that the statements of the family members of the martyrs, eye-witnesses and the injured were not recorded by any JIT, which is against the prevalent legal practices.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that we challenged this attitude based on manifest and glaring breach of law at every stage but since the nominated people are in seats of authority, our pleas were not heard. He said that despite all hiccups, we have carried on the legal battle and have not been discouraged. He said that the Punjab government got the dissenting notes removed from the record of the JIT set up by it, refused to hand over important documentary evidence and so much so that it also said no to our demand for some portions and statements of the Judicial Commission’s report and attached record. He said that the family members of the martyrs will bring these facts into the knowledge of the Chief Justice. He hoped that complete attention will be paid to these important aspects in connection with provision of justice to the martyrs of Model Town.
