Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri demands formation of commission to evaluate economic performance of govt
PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has given the suggestion of a high-powered commission to measure the economic performance of the rulers during the past five years and demanded that the facts so unearthed should be brought before the nation. He said that the people want to know as to why the rupee got devalued so steeply and why the country was indebted to the tune of $90 billion. He said that all these facts should come to the fore before the election. He said that from the prime minister to the ministers, all are involved in corruption and wanted by the NAB. He said that the government inducts each such persons into the top office as are summoned by the NAB. He said that the present rulers and system have given the corruption and loot of the resources the form of a parallel system.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said this while talking to the central core committee of the PAT on phone yesterday. He said that someone who was accused of mega corruption by the national anti-corruption body and whose name was recommended to be placed on the Exit Control List, was nominated as Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States. He asked if there isn’t even a single person in the so-called largest ruling party of the country who has corruption-free and clean record.
The PAT leader said that it is due to corruption that Pakistan’s debt has soared to $90 billion and it has to pay Rs. 1300 billion as interest on the loan per annum. He said that his heavy interest rates are paid by the people of Pakistan in the form of higher taxes and dearness. He said that a judicial commission should be set up to evaluate the showing of the government in the field of economy. The evidence-based findings should tell the nation as to the quantum of the loan in 2013 when this government came into power and its overall size at the close of their five-year term. The nation should be informed as to the losses suffered by the state-run entities in 2013 as well as in 2018. What was the circular debt in 2013 and where does it stand now in 2018?
Dr Qadri further said that an overall economic picture should be brought into the knowledge of the masses. He said that the facts relating to exports, imports, trade and current account deficits, foreign exchange reserves, the agricultural and manufacturing growth rate and institutional financial management should also be explored and made a public knowledge.
He said that the commission should also place the facts before the people in regard to the realms of social sector including health, education, clean drinking water and good governance so that no wizard or spin-doctor is able to hoodwink the people through TV and newspapers ads.
