Accountability essence of true democracy: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that corrupt elements have occupied the Pakistan of the Quaid and Iqbal and it is for this reason that Pakistan continues to suffer decline economically, politically and morally by the day.
In his message marking the death anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Dr Qadri said that the philosopher of the East stated ages ago that the secret to the nations’ progress lies in their ability to hold themselves accountable. He said that the ruling elite always considers itself above accountability and law of the land, which is testified by their conduct.
The PAT Chairman said that democracy is all about self-accountability, system of checks and balances and the continuous process of reform, adding that these things are non-existent here. He said that the verse of Allama Iqbal that has been made part of the Panama judgment bears huge significance and lessons for the rulers as well as the people. He said that social decline and deterioration has become our destiny because our society has continued to drift away from the idea of self-accountability.
