Asif Zardari telephones Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has said that former President Asif Ali Zardari telephoned PAT leader Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri last night and enquired after his health. Both leader discussed the current political situation in the country.
Talking to the PPP leader, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that on June 17, 2014, Punjab police played the role of private militia of the Sharifs. He said that the PAT is waging a legal struggle for justice via Qisas in the Model Town case. He said that the current rulers are responsible for the mass killings of our workers. He said that for establishment of justice and equality in the country, it is inevitable that justice in the Model Town case is delivered.
Dr Qadri informed Asif Zardari that the police shed the blood of innocent people on June 17. He said that around 100 people were shot at in the broad day light and under the glare of TV cameras. 14 innocent people were martyred whereas 85 sustained serious injuries. He said that all proofs were recorded by the TV cameras, adding that despite this we are being asked to present proofs and the masterminds have not been asked even a single question despite passage of two and half years.
The PAT Chairman said that we have demanded at every forum that the report of Justice Baqir Najfi should be made public but the same is being hushed up so that truth does not come out.
Speaking on the occasion, former President Asif Ali Zardari said that the Model Town tragedy is a sensitive matter that involves violation of the human rights, which cannot be ignored at any cost. He said that those who were killed in the Model Town were citizens of Pakistan and they should be handed down justice. He also demanded the release of Justice Baqir Najfi report.
Asif Ali Zarzari said that the PPP suffered many brutalities and many of its workers were killed. He said that we know the grief that the families experience at the loss of their near and dear ones. He said that political workers of all parties are respectable in our eyes and they have a right to criticize government. He said that we always respected dissent and freedom of expression, adding that political opponents are subjected to high handedness in Punjab for opposing the government policies. He said that the PPP always waged a struggle for democracy and freedom and had to bear a heavy cost in the process. He said that we are with Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri and his party in their demand for justice in the Model Town case.
