PAT welcomes the SC verdict on plea bargain
PAT Secretary Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has said that we welcome the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in regard to plea bargain. He said that culture of corruption and ‘muk muka’ got a new lease of life from the practice of plea bargain. He said that merely striking off plea bargain is not enough, adding that the SC should order NAB to submit the list of those from the business community, politics, and bureaucracy etc. who benefitted from this practice and their names should be publicized on media.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said this while talking to media men at the central secretariat of the party yesterday. He demanded that all cases that were shut as the result of plea bargain should be opened. He said that those who struck deals with the NAB actually admitted to their involvement in financial scams. The whole money should be recovered from them and they should be proceeded against under the law. He said that the beneficiaries of plea bargain who are holding government positons should be made to leave them.
Fayyaz Warraich and Basharat Jaspal said that the SC charge-sheeted the institution which was supposed to conduct accountability of those involved in the Panama leaks. They said that a Commission be constituted to investigate the ultra vires acts of NAB and the beneficiaries of NAB should be exposed before the people. They said that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri has been saying this from day one that institutions such as NAB are protecting the corrupt mafia. They however said that the decision of the Supreme Court is most welcome. They hoped that the apex court would play its constitutional role in fixing responsibility on the Panama characters and order recovery of the national wealth from them.
