PAT to observe June 17 as Martyrs’ Day
The Core Committee of Pakistan Awami Tehreek has decided to observe June 17 as the Martyrs’ Day. The day will be used as an opportunity to pay tributes to martyrs and the injured of the incident and express solidarity with the families. The next course of action will also be decided on the day.
The meeting of the Core Committee, which was held here at the central secretariat today with Dr Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri in the chair, was attended by Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Khawaja Aamir Fareed Koreja, Fayyaz Warraich, Basharat Jaspal, Brig. (r ) Muhammad Mushtaq, Ahmad Nawaz Anjum, Sajid Bhatti, Noorullah Siddiqui, and Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam attended the meeting.
The matters relating to post-Panama leaks evolving situation, Model Town tragedy, and return of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri came under discussion.
Addressing the meeting, Dr Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that the families of martyrs and the injured have not got justice despite passage of two years. He said that efforts are being made to treat this important case of national history as a normal case and push it under the carpet. He said that the heirs of martyrs are being kept deprived of constitutional right to justice. He said that we would not wait any longer and knock at every door for justice and go to any extent for justice.
Dr Hassan said that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri will announce the plan to return to the country in the light of the recommendations of the Core Committee.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said in his views on the occasion that one month has gone by since the Panamagate hit the surface and instead of presenting himself for accountability, the Prime Minister is running away from it. He said that we strongly condemn highly aggressive and uncivilized attitude of the PM he demonstrated during his address in Sukkar wherein he equated the opposition with terrorists. He said that economic terrorists are those people who looted national wealth and parked them in the offshore companies.
Khawaja Amir Fareed Koreja said that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri will be among the people soon. He is fully fit and will hold accountability of those involved in Model Town and Panama leaks.
Committees were formed to make arrangements for the Martyrs’ Day. The meeting also congratulated Sadiq Khan of Pakistani origin on his election as Mayor of London.
