PAT’s protest & condolence meeting today
Pakistan Awami Tehreek is going to arrange a big protest and condolence meeting at 5 pm in Model Town today to mark the completion of one year of Model Town tragedy. Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri will address the protest gathering through video link from London. All arrangements for this meeting have been completed. All political parties except ruling PML-N have been invited to the protest gathering. Those invited include Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan People’s Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Muttahida qaumi movement, Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen, Sunni Ittehad Council, All Pakistan Muslim League, civil society organization, human rights bodies and lawyers community.
Talking to the media men in the central secretariat, PAT President Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi said that the Model Town tragedy is a national tragedy. He said that it is a litmus test which will determine as to who is more superior and powerful; law or personalities. He said that 14 innocent people were martyred and 85 others were injured with live bullets for no reason on the fateful day of June 17, 2014. He said that what a pity it is that despite passage of one year, no investigation has been launched into FIR launched by the families of martyrs.
Dr Abbasi said that PAT took out rallies in 60 cities of the country from June 1 to June 14 to protest fake JIT report. He said that people attended these rallies in large number in addition to the PAT workers, and civil society organizations. He said that active participation of people and moral support they extended to us encouraged us a great deal. He said that the Model Town tragedy is a national issue and the people of Pakistan have their eyes set on this issue. He said that howsoever powerful, cunning, wealthy and influential the killers of innocent people may be, the sacred blood of martyrs will not go in vain. He said that people’s court will give its verdict against the killers in the evening of June 16.
