PAT & AML decided to field joint candidates in LG polls
PAT President Dr Raheeq Abbasi called on Chairperson of Awami Muslim League Sheikh Rashid Ahmad yesterday. Both leaders discussed prevailing political situation in the country including the matters relating to upcoming local government elections in the cantonment boards. Both PAT and AML have agreed to field consensus candidates both in elections in cantonment boards and local bodies.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said that if the Supreme Court had not taken serious stance on the LG polls, the present rulers would not have bothered to conduct the elections. He said that the whole nation would have to unite to get the local government powers and resources freed from clutches of the powerful. He said that it is the apex court, which is conducting the elections, adding that the Supreme Court would have to play its role in ensuring that funds and powers of local government system are utilized for greater good of the people.
Sheikh Rashid said that as long as the Punjab Chief Minister is in power, the martyrs of Model Town tragedy will neither get justice nor will fair investigation be carried out into the heart-rending incident, for the rulers know the consequences of fair and transparent inquiry. He, however, added in the same breath that the blood of martyrs will not go in vain. He said had such an incident happened in any western country, the people there would have dethroned such rulers.
Informing Sheikh Rashid about health of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri, Dr Raheeq Abbasi said that complete medical examination of the PAT chief will be carried out in the first week of May and the doctors will review the state of his health in respect of heart ailment called ‘Ejection Fraction’. He said that following coming of his medical report, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri will announce the final date of his arrival in Pakistan.
