- Ch. Shujat Hussain, Ch. Pervaiz Elahi, Siraj-ul-Haq and Liaqat Baloch visit residence of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri to inquire after his health.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, President of Pakistan Muslim League, senior PML leader Ch. Pervaiz Elahi, Amir Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Siraj-ul-Haq, and Secretary General JI Liaqat Baloch visited the residence of PAT chief Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri on December 1. They inquired after his health and prayed for his recovery. Dr Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Mansur Siddiqi and other leaders were present on the occasion.
After meeting Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri and inquiring after his health, PML leaders Ch. Shujaat Hussain and Ch. Pervaiz Elahi talked to media along with PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur. They said that unless the Chief Minister Punjab resigns, fair, free and transparent investigation into Model Town incident is not possible.
The PAT Secretary General strongly rejected a news item regarding the government’s offer of providing an air ambulance to Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri. He termed this news speculative, baseless and a lie. He clarified that no such offer was made, adding that if at all any such offer came from the government, PAT would reject it straight away. He said that a government hospital refused to admit Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri and provide him medicate treatment on his way to Lahore from Bhakkar, adding such is the moral condition of rulers.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch. Pervaiz Elahi asked the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to resign from his office, and offer himself for investigation. He said that what kind of democracy it is in which 14 innocent people are killed and about 100 of them are injured with live bullets of the state machinery at the behest of rulers.
Ch. Shujaat Hussain, while talking to media on the occasion, said that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri should concentrate on his medical treatment, adding that we pray for his immediate and full recovery.
Speaking to media later on after inquiring after health of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri, JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq and Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said that establishment of an investigation committee that enjoys the confidence of the complainant party is their right. They said that when justice is not readily available and the people have to go from pillar to post for it, it is then that an environment of taking law in one’s own hands is created. They said that the spectacle that people start taking law in their hands should be avoided. They said that it is unbearable that the people who had been wronged and oppressed by government authorities have to stage sit-in and long marches to seek justice.
JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq said that according to his information, investigation into Model Town incident has not begun yet. He said that an agreement was reached to resolve 70% of the disputed issues during dialogue between opposition Jirga and PAT at the time of sit-in.
PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, however, added that the rulers backtracked on all commitments agreed to during dialogue process on the following day, so much so that even the members of PAT negotiation team were arrested. He said that present rulers have been demonstrating their ill-will from June 17 to date. He said that he was seeing his own workers being killed and even he has been designated as principal accused in the Model Town tragedy, adding that the fact remains that media broadcast whole unfortunate episode live on their TV screens. He said that we have no confidence in unilateral investigation of the government. He said that the final decision to shift Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri abroad for treatment will be taken by his doctors.
The PAT chief gifted a copy of the Holy Quran to JI Amir Siraj-ul-Haq. He thanked PML and JI leaders for taking time out to visit him and inquire after his health.
