No system of justice and rule of law in the country: Dr Raheeq Abbasi

President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi has said that the notion has become rampant that the system of justice, reward and punishment has become extinct in the country. He said that the courts heard favourite cases and passed such remarks during the proceedings that became headlines in the media. He said that there was a claim for last few years regarding independence of judiciary but the fact of the matter was that not even a single killer was awarded capital punishment nor was any terrorist convicted nor was money recovered from any corrupt person.

Dr Raheeq Abbasi expressed these views while talking to a delegation of lawyers in his office in Model Town Lahore yesterday. He said that terrorists had been freed by the courts. So much so their fleeing from the courts had become a practice. He said that police system was not working well and corruption was a norm at the level of sub-ordinate judiciary. He said that people considered it preferable to ‘hire’ the services of a judge than those of a lawyer. He said that a lot of suspense and drama was created during the proceedings of several cases such as the Karachi Law and Order case, Memogate scandal, NRO, Rental Power, and GST, etc. but no result could be produced.

Dr Raheeq Abbasi said that Pakistan Awami Tehreek would continue to struggle for change in the system, adding that delivery of justice and fulfillment of other rights could only be possible through change in the system. He said that PAT would launch countrywide public awareness campaign after Eid-ul-Fitr.
