ECP playing second fiddle to Govt & Opposition: Dr Raheeq Abbasi
Politics is not our profession and elections are not our business. We are struggling only to strengthen Pakistan. We want to make Pakistan a progressive, moderate and a real democratic country under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri.
PAT President Dr Raheeq Abbasi expressed these views while addressing a big gathering of members of tehsil and union council executives in Gujrat. Earlier, when he arrived in Gujrat, PAT President was warmly welcomed by a large number of youth, and PAT workers. He said that the Election Commission of Pakistan had lost its integrity, neutrality and power in the face of stiff resistance from the government and opposition. He said that it was merely a symbolic institution meant to put a seal of approval on ritual of elections which would result in throwing up the same corrupt lot of leaders who had been occupying the corridors of power for 65 years.
PAT President said that the ECP’s compromise on the changes proposed in nomination form, Articles 62, 63 and 218 of the Constitution would render it weaker in holding free, fair and transparent elections in the country. He asked the members of the ECP to resign from their positions if they could not fulfill their responsibilities as per law. He said that the elections held under the watch of a toothless Election Commission would push the country into more troubles. He asked the Chief Election Commissioner to think of legacy he would leave due to his failure to preside over fair and free elections.
Dr Abbasi said that we are to going to make a new history on March 17 at Liaqat Bagh Rawalpindi. It will be a historical gathering like the one at the Minar e Pakistan Lahore.
Leaders of PAT (Gujrat chapter) announced on the occasion that 20,000 people would attend the public meeting in Liaqat Bagh Rawalpindi on 17 March.
