Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri unveils plan for ‘Revolution Marches’
Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has declared that the struggle he launched on December 23 and January 14 will continue unabated and ‘revolution marches’ will be held across the country. He said that the governments that had been formed for last 65 years manifestly violated Articles 3 and 38 of the Constitution. He said that implementation of both Articles would also be part of agenda in addition to electoral reforms. He said that he was convinced that the military did not want to impose martial in the country.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while addressing a press conference in central secretariat of Pakistan Awami Tehreek in Lahore on February 4. PAT President Dr Raheeq Abbasi, MQI Secretary General Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gundapur, PAT Secretary Information Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam, Sajid Mahmood Bhatti, Jawad Hamid and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
Unveiling the public demonstration plan, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that revolution marches would be held on February 15 (Friday) in Gujranwala, February 17 (Sunday) in Faisalabad, February 22 (Friday) in Multan, and March 10 (Sunday) in Rawalpindi. He said that these marches would conclude in the form of public meetings. He said that purging the Pakistan society of exploitation of every kind was our destination. He said that the people would have to take to streets for establishment of real democracy, Supremacy of Constitution and rule of law in the country.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the people were sufficiently aware of what Articles 62, 63 and 218(3) stood for and the upcoming elections would be held under these provisions of the Constitution. He said that the candidates would have to pass through 30-day scrutiny period before they could be declared eligible to run for polls. He said that the nation would have to rise against those who had been sucking their blood and squandering their resources.
In reply to a question, Dr Qadri said that the people were his support and he did not need crutches of any power or personality. He said that he would willingly embrace death than compromise on principles and his commitment with the people of Pakistan. He said that it was PAT’s challenge that no party could even think of staging a sit-in or a public demonstration of the size held by PAT. He said that he would reach out to masses and fight for their rights. He said that even if the government did not implement Islamabad Long March Declaration, he knew how to get the government to honour the commitment.
