Reforms before elections is my agenda: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri
Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the nation would reiterate their pledge of August 14 on the 23rd of December. He said that he was coming to Pakistan to get the workers of political and religious parties to rid themselves of bondage of corrupt, outdated and pro-elite electoral system. He said that the voices of 180 million people would echo in the plains of Minar-e-Pakistan on December 23 who, for all intents and purposes, remained disempowered and voiceless as the doors of entry into Parliament remain shut on them due to current electoral system.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while addressing the executive of Minhaj-ul-Quran Youth League in Lahore today. Babar Chaudhry, Rafique Siddiqi, Tayyab Zia, and other youth leaders were present on the occasion.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri made it clear that he had no political ambitions nor was his party taking part in elections. He said that his agenda revolved around reforms before the polls as the conduct of elections without bringing about reforms in the system would plunge the country into more crises. He said that December 23 would come to be known as a watershed in the struggle for restoration of the people’s rights. He said that the foundation-stone of realizing the dream of Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan would be laid down on that day. He said that he would declare an agenda, which would reflect the aspirations of people of all segments of society.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri asked the workers and people to bring Pakistani flags only, adding that no one would be allowed to bring party flags with them. He said that the world would witness waves of people in the plains of Minar-e-Pakistan as well as on the adjoining roads. He said that millions of Pakistani flags would flutter on that day, a scene unheard of in the country’s history. He said that December 23 would serve as a flash back to March 23. He said that the youth had critical role to play in brining about peaceful and democratic change in the country.
