PAT calls for proportional system of representation
The long bouts of load-shedding that spans over 20-hours a day during scorching heat has rendered life into hell. The people have developed psychological disorders and thus serious social hazards have been posed to stability of the society. The ruling elite remains oblivious to what masses are facing. Economic collapse, that looms large on the horizon, presents the most daunting challenge to the country. Pakistan’s problems are the outcome of corrupt and outdated electoral system. Unless something is done about it, nothing is going to change for good.
Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani, President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, expressed these views while addressing an emergency meeting of Central Working Council of PAT. GM Malik, Lehrasiab Gondal, Chaudhry Sharif, Anwar Akhtar Advocate, Tanveer Azam, MH Shaheen and Chaudhry Afzal Gujjar were also present on the occasion.
PAT President said that we would have to vow as a nation not to extend any kind of support to the system. The people would have to become active and play greater role in spearheading their lives. He said that accountability was the way forward. Unless those who have divided the nation into different groups are made to answer, we cannot come out of our present set of problems, he added.
Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani said that proportional system of representation was the suitable arrangement, which could be instrumental in installing real democracy in the country by encouraging representation of all sections of society. He underscored the importance of self-belief and active involvement on the part of people, warning that otherwise they would continue to suffer without any let or hindrance.
