Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri addressed the hundreds of thousands of participants of the Long March at Jinnah Avenue and D Chowk in front of the Parliament House. Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, President of PAT’s Federal Council, has said that call to revolution (Azan) was given on January 14 and only the prayer is left to be offered. He said that following the May 11 flawed elections if someone still thought that the next elections would be instrumental in bringing about change was in the manifest error. He said that a system, which held the nation hostage for many decades, was not going to give in that easily to pave the way for change. Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the since the ECP was unconstitutional; all the Election Tribunals established by it were also illegal as the retired judges were appointed to hear appeals in contravention of National Judicial Policy 2009. He said that one-year contracts were handed down to retired judicial officers asking them to play ‘according to the rules of the game’ or hence they faced the prospect of job losses after expiry of their contracts. Dilating upon electoral philosophy in Pakistan, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the masses were supposed to vote while the moneyed classes and winning horses were presumed to rule. He said that had those advocating change joined PAT’s Long March, they would not have to resort to staging sit-ins today. He said that had his petition against the illegal composition of Election Commission heard, the ECP would have to be reconstituted, which the judges did not want. As election-day drew near, the hundreds of overseas Pakistanis expressed their solidarity with their beleaguered nation and its countrymen, by staging a protest at Pakistani embassies across Europe, to show their discontent and condemnation of the corrupt practices and unconstitutional electoral process, under which the elections were going to take place.
