Millions of people in Punjab are at the mercy of smog: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur
Smog has become a disease; help should be sought from scientists and environmental experts: PAT Secretary General
National media should run awareness programs on preventing the harmful effects of smog.
Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) Secretary General, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, has stated that smog has turned into a serious issue, leaving millions of people in Punjab vulnerable. He said that respiratory and skin diseases are spreading like an epidemic. Awareness programs should be run on national media to educate people on protecting themselves from the harmful effects of smog. Immediate assistance should be sought from Chinese scientists and environmental experts. If a neighboring country is responsible for the smog, diplomatic talks should be initiated, as it is a matter of human lives.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur noted that the increasing wave of smog is severely affecting public health. The toxic particles in pollution are entering the lungs through breathing, causing asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory diseases. He said that risks are particularly high for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. He advised people to follow medical guidelines, wear masks, and stay indoors as much as possible.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur added that severe pollution is not only slowing down work productivity but also disrupting the transportation system. Flights are delayed, and road accidents are increasing due to reduced visibility. The economy faces further threats in these conditions. Schools are closed, and children's health is at risk, negatively impacting students' education. A permanent solution to this critical issue must be found.
