Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, the leader of PAT, has said that upcoming elections and corruption are ‘twin brothers’ and the Election Commission is their ‘father’. He said that the dream of real democracy would never be fulfilled in the country in their presence. He said that if the people wanted to get rid of the oppression wrought by the system, they would have to send ‘the entire family’ packing. Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that sit-ins would be held throughout the country but added in the same breath that the participants of the sit-ins would not stop anyone from casting his/her vote. They would just get their protest registered against the incumbent system recorded. Speaking to the participants of motor cycle rally, Dr Raheeq Abbasi said that if elections were not held according to Articles 62, 63 and 218 of the Constitution, it would be danger to national security and integrity. He said that if PAT would not take part in elections if they did not appear fair, free and transparent but added in the same breath that PAT would continue to struggle for change and against the corrupt system. RAWALPINDI: Dr Tahirul Qadri has announced that the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) will not contest the upcoming general elections.
